Neuro ICU Symposium

The Vivian L. Smith Department of Neurosurgery hosts the ninth annual Neuro ICU Symposium, April 20-22 at InterContinental – Medical Center (6750 Main St.).

The Neuro ICU Symposium is designed to educate physicians and other health care professionals on how to optimally manage patients using a team approach and evidence-based medicine. The emphasis on the 2022 symposium will be on envisioning the future of Neuro ICU care, focusing on comprehensive patient care, and optimizing critical care delivery.

After the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the 2021 edition of the symposium to an online format, the symposium returns to an in-person gathering featuring many highlights including: cutting-edge management of subarachnoid hemorrhage, advances in neurotrauma, and the impact of CNS malignancy on ICU care.

New sessions for the 2022 Neuro ICU Symposium include BEST-MSU trial results, world brain death project, surviving sepsis, focus on CNS malignancies, and what is consciousness? Popular sessions from previous years including patient experiences, different viewpoints, simulation labs, and cross-fire debates will also return.

Day 1 of the symposium features an overview of Acute Care of Neurologic Injury and will cover topics in vascular neurology and neurotrauma. The following day highlights Comprehensive Care for the Neuro ICU Patients focusing on critical care medicine, exploration of consciousness and CNS malignancies and end-of-life care.

A complete schedule of events as well as information on cost of attendance; parking; CME, CNE, and CRCE credits; and more can be found on the symposium’s website.

The symposium’s course director and committee chair is Tiffany R. Chang, MD, director of the Neurocritical Care and Fellowship Program and associate professor of neurosurgery.
