Salih Selek, MD, professor in the Louis A. Faillace, MD, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, has been elected to the 2022-23 Epic Behavioral Health Steering Board. He will serve a three-year term beginning in July.

“I am honored to be elected by my coworkers to this committee,” Selek said. “I believe the committee will be another platform to carry our ideas to higher levels.”

Drawing from varied practice expertise and Epic experiences, the board will select best practices from organizations’ existing configurations to improve quality of care and productivity. The standards the Behavioral Health Steering Board identify will become part of the Foundation System and serve as a best-practices guide for live organizations.

Selek is the director of the Refractory Mood Disorders Program at UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center (HCPC). He leads the ECT Clinic and Neuromodulation Clinical Trials at HCPC and is ranked as one of the top international experts specializing in mood disorders.

Selek received his medical degree from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, before completing a residency in psychiatry at Gaziantep University, in Gaziantep, Turkey. He joined McGovern Medical school as a visiting scientist in 2010 before being appointed as faculty in 2014.

UT Physicians and UTHealth Houston made the move to Epic on May 8, 2021. The switch benefitted patients by providing a complete digital record spanning their entire continuum of care and improved information sharing to access in-depth medical records for patients to strengthen the ability to provide continuity of care and improve outcomes.

The EHR also features a robust, secure patient portal digital tool called MyChart, which is branded as MyUTHealth by the university. To learn more about the new MyUTHealth patient portal, go here.
