Take a virtual walk through the Hawaiian Islands
In honor of Hearth Health Month in February, Walk with a Doc presents the Aloha Adventure, a virtual adventure through the Hawaiian Islands, Feb. 14-27.
Show your heart some love by completing two weeks of movement (any kind you like), connecting with others, and getting inspired to eat health foods as you virtually hop from island to island. Registration is open for the free event, however there are only 1,500 registration slots available.
Participants can complete any type of activity they enjoy and can do safely including walking, running, swimming, housework, and more. Logging your activity each day allows you to virtually move around the islands of Hawaii and encourage fellow adventurers along the way. Each registrant will receive a digital race bib and participation certificate.
Walk with a Doc was started in 2005 by David Sabgir, MD, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio. Frustrated with his inability to affect behavior change in the clinical setting, he invited his patients for a walk at a local park, where more than 100 people joined him. Today, there are more than 500 chapters worldwide.
Samuel D. Luber, MD, MPH, professor, executive vice-chair of academic affairs, and assistant dean for graduate medical education in the Department of Emergency Medicine, is the faculty sponsor for the Walk with a Doc program. Luber started the Walk with a Doc chapter at McGovern Medical School in 2018.
