Gary Rosenfeld, PhD, associate dean of Medical Education and professor in the Department of Integrative Biology and Pharmacology and founding chair of the Academy at McGovern served as the guest speaker at the 2022 AME Induction Ceremony, held virtually, Feb. 17. Following Rosenfeld’s speech, which detailed the “origin story” of the Academy at McGovern as well as his own personal and professional journey, new inductees were introduced by a mentor of their choice .

“The 2022 Academy of Master Educators inductees are celebrated by the students for their compassion and teaching style, and they are helping to build a community of educators to represent McGovern Medical School,” John said.

A symbol of McGovern Medical School’s education mission, the AME serves to foster institutional and faculty activities related to the mission of undergraduate and graduate education. The academy is dedicated to recognizing, developing, and promoting outstanding faculty educators and supporting excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching while improving curriculum and advancing educational scholarship.

“The Academy offers a valuable platform to network and collaborate with nationally renowned educational leaders,” John said. “The AME members make very generous mentors. We are always on the lookout for motivated and dynamic faculty to join the Academy. Academy membership shouldn’t just be seen as a destination; instead it should be an integral part of one’s journey to be a master educator.”
