Overview
The Medical Quality Section of the UTHealth Houston Department of Emergency Medicine leads hospital-quality, operations, and safety initiatives across our clinical sites. Our mission is to deliver safer, more effective, and more efficient emergency care for every patient.
What We Do
Our faculty oversee a broad spectrum of quality efforts, including:
- Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives
- Quality Assurance & case review
- Patient safety education and training
- Process optimization and systems operations
Through these efforts, we foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Quality Fellowship
The EM Quality Fellowship is a one-year program that develops physician leaders in safety, quality, and operations. Fellows gain experience in:
- Leading QI projects and system-wide initiatives
- Conducting root cause analyses and peer review
- Exploring operations, finance, and leadership in hospital systems
- Maintaining a clinical practice across our emergency departments
This hands-on training equips fellows to drive change and improve care delivery at the system level.
