Community Experience in Pediatric Emergency Medicine
Our Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Fellowship offers a unique community medicine experience at Memorial Hermann Hospital – Katy, providing fellows with the opportunity to practice emergency medicine in a high-acuity, community-based setting.

- Located 30-minutes west of Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital – TMC
- Eight-bed Pediatric Emergency Department
- 10,000+ pediatric encounters per year
- Eight inpatient Pediatric beds with Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) capabilities
- Designated Level III Trauma Center
Hands-On Training & Procedural Experience
Fellows gain firsthand exposure to community-based PEM while developing critical decision-making skills in an independent setting.
They perform a wide range of procedures that might otherwise be handled by specialists in an academic center, including:
- Fracture reductions
- Burn debridement
- Complex laceration repairs
- Chest tube placements and more
Moonlighting & Career Development
Starting in their second year, fellows have the opportunity to moonlight as attendings at Memorial Hermann Katy, an invaluable experience that enhances confidence and autonomy.
Many fellows find this experience immensely beneficial in making a seamless transition to attending-level practice after fellowship.
