Simulation Center
In 2005, the UTHealth completed development of the Surgical & Clinical Skills Center, a $15 million dollar project. We train all levels of learners, from medical students to board-certified anesthesiologists. In 2012, we received certification from the American Society of Anesthesiology to become Houston’s first certified MOCA Simulation Center.
The center has two highly-configurable patient simulation labs with both METI and Laerdal simulators (ten adult, pediatric, and neonatal). Each lab has all the gases and equipment to simulate operating rooms or emergency rooms. These are also well equipped with video monitors and two-way communication to the control booth. These simulations can also be broadcast over the internet to virtually any audience.
The center has a full wet lab and standardized patient areas. The center participants include medical students beginning in their first year, residents in all specialties, faculty, and private physicians from the surrounding area. We also provide community outreach to the Houston area.
